What is a PTZ security camera?

A PTZ camera is a motorized camera that pans, tilts, and zooms, so a single camera can sweep a wide area, follow activity, and zoom in for detail using true optical magnification. It covers ground that would take several fixed cameras. Mammoth Security places PTZ cameras where they add reach on Connecticut properties, alongside fixed cameras for constant coverage.

When should a property use a PTZ camera instead of a fixed camera?

PTZ cameras suit large, open areas where activity moves and detail matters at distance, parking lots, perimeters, large yards, and loading docks. Because a PTZ camera looks one direction at a time, it works best alongside fixed cameras that record everything constantly. Mammoth Security designs the mix so each camera does what it does best.

Can a PTZ camera track movement automatically?

Yes. Auto-tracking lets a PTZ camera lock onto a moving person or vehicle and follow it automatically, and preset positions let it patrol a set route or swing to an event when analytics or a sensor detects activity. Tied into a video management system, it becomes an active part of a monitored setup. Mammoth Security programs these features per site.
